VISITING WONDERFUL INDONESIA

For those wanting to visit Indonesia for either leisure or explore business opportunities there are multiple visas available without the hassle and dazzle a limited stay permit requires (i.e an ITAS or KITAP). Often these visas are referred to as social visas. In general, you can choose between 4 types of visit visas:

  • Free exemption visa
  • Visa on arrival
  • Single entry visa
  • Multiple entry visa

So, depending on the length of your desired ‘short visit’ you can choose one of the possibilities mentioned above. Below we will give a short explanation about each of these visas as well a guide to obtaining one yourself.

FREE EXEMPTION VISA:
Citizens from 169 countries, who only want to visit wonderful Indonesia as a tourist, can already come here using the ‘visa free facility’, that means that you just go to the special counter at the airport when you arrive and ask for the free exemption visa. Be aware this visa only allows for leisure in traditional sense. For example, attending a workshop or training is not allowed.

VISA ON ARRIVAL:
Visa on Arrival (VOA), which you can get at the airport, is valid for 30 days and can be extended one time, with another 30 days. You will need to go to an local immigration office for a photo and fingerprint session.

BUSINESS VISAS:
Indonesian Business Visas are excellent for people who want to spend their holidays in Indonesia, but is also very popular for anyone planning to move to Indonesia to work and/or find a job. With this visa you can hold business talks with companies, visit business conferences and more, but it is not intended and not allowed to use this visa to commence work. There are two types of Business Visas:

SINGLE ENTRY VISA:
With a single entry visa you can enter Indonesia one time (single!). It requires a sponsor which can be a natural person or company. You can stay for 60 days and the visa can be extended at the local immigration office 4 times for 30 days. So, you could stay for 180 days in total, but once you leave Indonesia the visa expires. But you can immediately apply for a new one. Hence, it is called a singleentry visa. After the 4th extension, you must leave Indonesia. If you do extend it yourself; you must bring a sponsor and request letter. The first time you will need to do a bio data session, where your photos and fingerprints will be taken. This visa is available for those foreigners who need to visit Indonesia to conduct business negotiations or to conduct work/training assignments.

MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA:
A multiple entry visa gives you the right to visit Indonesia as many times as you want over a period of one year after issuance. You can stay a maximum period of 60 days and then you must leave Indonesia again, but you can come back (even the same day), without further ado. In contrast with the single-entry visa it is not possible to extends this visa at a local immigration office. You must leave Indonesia!
